ICS Celebrates Earth Day with Gardening Event

On April 22nd, ICS students, teachers, staff and parent volunteers celebrated Earth Day with a school wide gardening event. The ICS Garden was cleared out and new soil, plants and seeds were planted. Children had the opportunity to work alongside parents who spent the morning volunteering. Tomatoes, watermelon, basil, sunflowers and eggplant are among the many new additions to the garden.

Children spent the week learning about plants, where food comes from and how they can help sustain the planet as well as the importance of recycling. Several classes had children bring items to class to sort into recycling bins.

ICS is now beginning two yearlong art projects focusing on teaching children how to reuse items that would have otherwise been thrown away. Parents are helping this effort by bringing in empty water bottles and bottle tops. Stay tuned to learn more about our projects. More photos are available on our Facebook page.
